Appeals Court Takes Up Gay Workers Rights

The Trump administration will argue in court today that federal law does not protect gay workers from employment discrimination.  The Justice Department is supporting a New York skydiving company being sued by a former instructor.  The instructor accused the company of firing him after he told a customer he was gay and she complained.  The Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan will decide whether discriminating against gay workers violates the Civil Rights Act.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will be at today's hearing, on behalf of the instructor's estate.  He died in a BASE-jumping accident after filing the lawsuit.
