The Obama administration just told the Obama administration that there is no free lunch.
Two new Obama regulations, one implemented, one pending, will affect wages for contract workers at on-base military concessions. Rules require in increase in the minimum wage for such employees, and fringe benefits at $3.81 per hour.
Therefore, four restaurants, including three McDonald's, will close on Navy installations. Two other contractors, a sandwich eatery and a pizza parlor, have asked to be released from their Army and Air Force Exchange Service contracts to operate fast food restaurants. And this is just the beginning. When the terms of other contracts run out, sources say they will not be renewed.
The reason? The employees cost too much.
The soldiers can just go off base to buy a sammich, right? How about when the Mickey D's down the street from you closes for the same reason?
