Illinois yesterday joined the rest of the United States. Illinois citizens can now wait until 2014 to legally carry concealed weapons.
Of couse, being Illinois, the state permit to carry will cost three times what the Iowa permit costs.
And, of course, Illinois will not recognize a permit to carry from any other state. If a citizen of Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, or Minnesota wishes to carry a concealed weapon in Illinois they must fork over $300 and take two full work days of classes for an additional $300. You think many aliens will choose to drop $600 on Illinois?
In addition, the hissy fit by the governor whose amendatory veto was overridden was a delight to behold.
The new law is better than nothing, but it would be nice if Illinois would treat an Iowa concealed carry permit the same way it treats an Iowa driver's license.
