There is an update on the shooting of a Davenport Police officer. Scott County Sheriff, Tim Lane confirmed to TV6, the suspect in Thursday's shooting is Brett Samuel Dennis Sr.
He is facing several charges: Attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, eluding, driving while barred, 5th degree criminal mischief, harassment and a child support charge.
According to court records, Dennis Sr. has a lengthy record including several felony charges. In most of those cases, court records show he was placed on probation.
Davenport Police Chief Paul Sikorski announced early Thursday evening that the Davenport officer is “doing well” while hospitalized in stable condition.
“I was joking with him a little bit before I left [the hospital]” Sikorski told reporters at around 7 p.m. Sikorski also said police have two suspects in custody and are not looking to make any more arrests.
Sikorski said officers patrolling the area Thursday at around 4:25 p.m. encountered two “suspicious subjects” and tried to talk to them.
A foot pursuit ensued, Sikorski said, during which one of the suspects “engaged our officer with gunfire” and the officer returned fire. One of the suspects was injured and hospitalized, but Sikorski said he did not know the suspect’s condition.
“It’s never easy; it’s a very difficult profession,” Sikorsky said of the incident. “We appreciate our community’s help all the time.”
