MUSCATINE, Iowa - A Muscatine man loses his hand and another loses fingers in a fireworks accident on July 4th.
Police say three men lit a mortar, but it exploded before one of the men could throw it.
One official says it is the worst fireworks-related event the city has seen in awhile.
“We had a pickup truck burned as a result of fireworks a year ago but this is the worst personal injury we have had since fireworks became legal,” said Assistant Fire Chief Michael Hartman.
Two of the three men were taken to the hospital by first responders. Another drove himself to the hospital.
TV 6 reports all three are expected to survive.
