An Iowa man on his honeymoon in near Jacksonville, Florida drowned while swimming yesterday. 22 year old Dalton Cottrell and his wife were in the water at Crescent Beach. She told police it was his first time in the water when current pulled them in deeper.
Police say that Cottrell struggled as his wife attempted to help him but she was unable to do so as he was pulling her under water. She stated he was under water for about a minute and he came up but his eyes were rolled in the back of his head.
A witness got the attention of a lifeguard who performed CPR. When authorities arrived, Cottrell was in the back of a truck being taken to an ambulance.
There are reports that Cottrell was from Malcom, Iowa.
