The bump in the road for recycling in California is a small mountain. In California you have to take cans and bottles to a recycling center to get back your 5 or 10 cent deposit. Since 2015 996 recycling centers have closed. Many areas now do not have a place to get your deposit back.
Why? China.
China stopped taking American garbage and the price crashed. The monthly cost to get you home's bin emptied is going up, and you can't redeem the cans and bottles.
