The Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency run Energy Star. Energy Star says set your thermostat at 78 degrees during the day, 82 while you sleep, and 85 or higher while you are at work.
For today that is just a suggestion. The toilet that does not have enough water to flush was once a suggestion. The dishwasher that will not clean dishes was once a suggestion.
