DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Rock Island Fire Department was dispatched to the Mississippi River around 1:30 p.m. Monday after a report of a man holding onto a log in the water.
Fire officials tell KWQC TV6 that the man went into the water near Davenport and was seen holding onto a log. The man was floating toward a barge when he was pulled from the river into a rescue boat.
The man apparently told officials he went into the water willingly and was trying to travel to Kentucky on that log.
The man was not hurt. Officials urged him to make other transportation arrangements to Kentucky.
