GALESBURG, Illinois - A death investigation is underway in Galesburg after a woman was hit by a train around 8:30 Monday evening near Ella and North Pearl Street.
The woman has been identified as Carrie Miller of Galesburg. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
KWQC TV6 reports a witness told police that he had been walking with Miller and that the train had stopped and they were crossing the tracks. The witness said that Miller had fallen on the tracks and then the train started to move and hit her.
Galesburg Police and investigators with the Burlington Northern Santé Fe say it appears Miller was crossing between cars at the time. The investigation continues.
