North Scott School District Superintendent Tests Positive For COVID-19

The superintendent of the North Scott School District has tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus.

KWQC-TV6 reports Superintendent Joe Stutting confirmed he tested positive for coronavirus Saturday and has been in quarantine since last Thursday.

The district said in a statement Sunday that Stutting attended an outdoor event the weekend of Aug. 22 and was informed of the exposure during the week.

“Throughout this past week we have had 6 cases of staff members and a number of students requiring quarantine from exposure outside the school setting,” the district said in the statement.

On Saturday, high school administration and the Scott County Health Department conducted contact tracing to identify high school students with possible exposure in the school. The result of the tracing found an additional 13 students, as well as the sophomore football team, who will be quarantined.

KWQC-TV 6 reports the district is asking that students and families help in the effort to keep school going in-person, and students participating in activities. “Just as we are following the health department recommendation inside of school, we are encouraging everyone to do these same things outside of school,” a district spokesperson says. “We are all in this together. We can not let this virus and these challenges define us as a community. We all need to do what we can to keep schools going.”
