Political Correctness

Johnson County is named for Richard Mentor Johnson, a U.S. Senator and Vice President of the United States. One of the county supervisors is troubled by the name Johnson. You see, it is probable that Richard M. Johnson personally killed Tecumseh, the Shawnee chief who led Native Americans in support of the British during the War of 1812.

There is no excuse for such behavior 205 years ago.
