90's Kids Rejoice - MTV Plans on Rebooting 'Daria' 'Real World' 'Aeon Flux'

90's kids rejoice - some of your favorite characters may be coming back for a second run thanks to MTV. According to The Hollywood Reporter, MTV is launching MTV Studios in an effort to capitalize on the network's 35-years worth of hits. The effort is part of a larger push by MTV's parent company Viacom, to expand into a fully-fledged studio and monetize its older content.

“MTV has the biggest collection of hit youth franchises that spans more than three decades of content and over 200 titles, part of which have fueled our resurgence,” said MTV President Chris McCarthy in a statement. “With MTV Studios, we are for the first time ever opening up this vault beyond our own platforms to re-imagine the franchises with new partners.”

The nascent studio is set to launch with an initial schedule that includes everyone's favorite sullen teen Daria. Other productions include an unscripted entry, Made, which will join the previously announced reboots of Aeon Flux and The Real World

Two original docuseries have also been scheduled to be broadcast as part of the new studio lineup. The Valley (which draws its inspiration from previous MTV superhits, The Hills and Siesta Key), and MTV's Straight Up Ghosted, a show that will reconnect people who have lost contact with old friends.

Created by Glenn Eichler and Susie Lewis Lynn, Daria broadcast for five seasons on MTV between 1997 and 2002. The principle character, Daria Morgendorffer, was a smart, sarcastic teenage girl from the fictional suburban town of Lawndale and was a satire of high school life.

Nervous network executives looking at shrinking audience sizes and dilution of streaming services are looking at previous IP they have in their catalogs to lure viewers to their channel. Rebooting old, successful television shows has become a reliable way for studios to reignite interest in their stories. Shows like Will & GraceRoseanne, and Fuller House have recently made it back on the air, bringing fans more adventures with the characters they grew up with with varying degrees of success.
