$3 Fraud Case Leads To Capture Of Most-Wanted Murder Suspect

When police in Ogden, Utah began investigating a case of credit card fraud they never expected it would lead to them to the suspect in a 2012 murder in California. It all started when Anthony Salazar reported that somebody had stolen his credit card and used it to buy a $3 can of Red Bull.

Salazar believed that the movers he hired were responsible and police began investigating the employees of the moving company. While looking through the records, Ogden Police detective Rachel Walker discovered that one of the employees had used counterfeit identification to get his job and she went to his Salt Lake City home with another detective and an agent with Immigration Customs and Enforcement to speak with 33-year-old Cody James Tripp.

While they determined that Tripp was not the person who stole Salazar's credit card, they found he did have a warrant for his arrest in California for the murder of 29-year-old Jordan Vigil. Tripp was taken into custody and will be extradited to California to face the murder charge.

“The fact that someone was a murder suspect and they went through my house, that was a little unnerving,” Salazar told KSL. “I am happy that we were able to get a murder suspect off the streets because of all this.”

Officials are still trying to determine who stole Salazar's credit card.
