DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The City of Davenport is working to assist residents affected by flooding with the help of the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross.
Water poured into the area up to Third Street and affected buildings from River Drive to Second Street when the HESCO barrier breached around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Salvation Army is accepting donations at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds on Wednesday, May 1 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Items like bottled water, non-perishable food, bed sheets, pillows, towels and toiletries are needed.
Sandbags can be requested by businesses in the flood zone by calling Public Works at (563) 326-7923.
Free parking is available downtown in the Harrison Street ramp and residents and visitors are asked to avoid areas closed for emergency operations.
The Mississippi River could rise another 5 inches Wednesday.
