The jury trial for Davenport's North Scott Jr. High School Student Luke Andrews is underway.
Twelve people were selected to serve as jurors with three alternates. Opening statements started at 9 a.m. Thursday and the trial could last eight days.
Andrews is accused of bringing a loaded gun to the school. Police say he pointed it at a teacher. His defense attorney says he did not intend to kill his teacher but was looking for attention. Prosecutors say Andrew's gun was loaded and there was a bullet in the chamber. The safety was on and that prevented a tragedy. . Andrews is 13 and the incident happened last August.
Andrews is described as a youthful offender but is being tried in an adult court. He is charged with attempted murder, carrying weapons on school grounds and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon.
