Swimming not advised at some beaches due to bacteria: IOWA BEACH MAP

DES MOINES, Iowa - Two public beaches on Rathbun Lake are open again after being closed for blue-green algae, a bacteria than can make people and dogs sick.

However, several other lakes in Iowa now have beach advisories for either blue-green algae or eColi. 

Swimming is not advised because of high bacterial levels at:

Green Valley State Park and Lake of Three Fires State Park in Southeastern Iowa.

Beed’s Lake State Park, McIntosh Woods State Park, and Clear Lake State Park in North Central Iowa.

Backbone State Park in Northeastern Iowa.
