Davenport Police Investigate Violent Carjacking At Gunpoint

Davenport Police are investigating a robbery that involved a handgun. Police were called to the home on West 2nd and Warren Street around 4:20 Saturday afternoon.

31 year old Benjamin Wendall Sr. is charged with 1st degree robbery, 1st degree theft and assault. 22 year old Deangelo McShane is charged with eluding - injury, OWI, drugs or participate in a felony and 1st degree theft.

Police say that Wendell Sr. punched the victim in the face while demanding the victim to get out of the vehicle. Wendell Sr. then asked one of the suspects for a gun and then hit the victim the back of the head causing a 1 to 2 inch laceration. Wendell Sr. then pulled the victim from the vehicle. He and another suspect got in and drove off.

On Sunday, police were called to the Kwik Shop at 31st and Rockingham Road after a staff reported there was a stolen vehicle in the parking lot. Police saw that vehicle driving north on Elmwood Avenue. Police also noted that the driver was failing to follow traffic signals at a number of intersections and was swerving. That started a pursuit. Police performed a maneuver and the vehicle was blocked. It turned out that McShane was the driver of the vehicle. Police say he admitted to driving the vehicle and did not want to pull over.

29 year old Erin Cummings was a passenger in the vehicle. Police say Cumming willingly remained inside the stolen vehicle, acting as an accessory to the two other suspects.
