One person is dead after an officer involved shooting in Burlington. Police officers and the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to he 300 block of North Gunnison Street just before 1 a.m. Wednesday for a shots fired call. Witnesses told officers that the suspect was in a white S 10 Chevy pickup.
Burlington Police located that pickup and tried to pull it over near Angular and Summer Streets. Police reports show at that time the driver got out of the truck, showed a gun at officers and then took off running.
Burlington Police ran after the suspect and there was an exchange of gunfire between both parties. The suspect was hit, taken to a hospital and later died.
The suspect's name has not been released. No law enforcement officers were injured.
This investigation continues.
