Rock Island Flood Plan For Rising Mississippi River Water

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - Preparations are underway in Rock Island as they implement their flood strategy due to a rise in Mississippi River water levees.

Rock Island officials posted on Facebook that they have several water pump discharge hoses that will be placed across the Rock Island portion of the bike path on Thursday, October 3rd. Those hoses will be marked.

Portions of the bike path will be closed due to high water and will remain closed until the river falls below 16 feet. KWQC TV6 reports that officials say 18th Avenue at Skafidas Parkway will close on Friday, October 4th.

The Sunset Marina fuel dock will remain open however pump out service will stop on Friday. This will not impact dock power and water service. The lower road will close to vehicles and temporary walkways will be put in place.
