Des Moines man accused of fleeing cops in bitter cold now in warm jail

DES MOINES, Iowa - It's not the kind of weather you want be fleeing police wearing only jeans and a sweatshirt.

Police dispatcher reports tell the story of a police foot chase in the early morning hours when wind chills were around -22 degrees on the south side of Des Moines.

The suspect reportedly jumped out of his car on Watrous Avenue and police officers ran after him, with an officer reporting the suspect dropped his cell phone along the way.

With no coat, hat or gloves, and no way to call for a getaway ride, police blocked off a five-block area and reported a pretty quick arrest near SE 7th Street, and the suspect spent the rest of the night in a warm jail cell.

According to Polk County Jail records, 27-year-old Joshua Ryan Carmody was booked into the Polk County jail just before 3:00 a.m. on a long list of charges, including possession of narcotics with intent to sell, driving without a license, violation of parole, and fleeing police. See below.
