Iowa National Guard Delivers State of the Guard Address

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa National Guard says its been more involved in supporting the state in the past year than at any time since the 2008 floods.

The guard held its annual Condition of the Guard Address at the Iowa Capitol, where it reported on its efforts during the pandemic and the August derecho.

It's troops have been monitoring traffic at Test Iowa sites since the first drive-thru site opened in April.

It's also assisted with food delivery during the pandemic, and with massive clean-up in Cedar Rapids after the August derecho.

Major General Ben Corell oversees 900 troops in the Iowa National Guard.

He said its largest number of members were deployed overseas in more than 10 years in 2020.
