Iowa Secretary of State Launches High School Voter Registration Campaign

DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is asking high schools to join a campaign to register students to vote.

Schools that register 90 percent of eligible students in the next few months (by April 16) will get a special award.

Iowa law lets 17-year-olds register to vote, and participate in primary elections if they'll be 18 years old in time for the general election.

Schools that meet the 90 percent requirement get the Carrie Chapman Catt Award. Catt was a national leader in the movement for women's voting rights.

More information on consideration for the award and conducting a voter registration is here.

The Catt Award was launched during the 2019-20 school year and 18 schools qualified.
