Iowa Crash Victim Is Father Of Nebraska Football Assistant Coach

The father of Nebraska football Defensive Coordinator Erik Chinander died in a crash in rural northeast Iowa Thursday afternoon.

The Iowa State Patrol says 69-year old Gene Chinander was driving his 2019 Ram pickup truck southbound on Highway 14 near Allison when he failed to stop at the intersection of Highways 14 and 3, left the roadway, and crashed into a semi trailer that was in a parking lot.

Patrol investigators say Gene Chinander was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was involved in the crash as the investigation continues.

Erik Chinander, a native of Allison, played college football at the University of Iowa, and was a member of Nebraska Coach Scott Frost's staff at the University of Central Florida.
