Drive by Moline's Rotary Park along 6th Avenue and you'll see hundreds of blue pinwheels. They were planted there by the Moline Police. Tomorrow the Davenport Police will also plant blue pinwheels in front of their police station. What gives?
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. For the last 10 years, Pinwheels for Prevention, a nationwide public awareness campaign has been putting a new "spin" on child abuse prevention. The campaign uses community activities and public policies to prioritize prevention right from the start, making sure child abuse and neglect never occur. They say pinwheels connote "whimsy and childlike notions. In essence, it has come to serve as the physical embodiment, or reminder, of the great childhoods we want for all children."
If you're looking for ways to help (child abuse IS preventable) The Child Abuse Council of the Quad Cities will hold their annual Lifesaver fundraiser on April 26th, 2018 at TaxSlayer Center in Moline.
