It's Not Cody Parkey's Fault

Sickening. That's the only word I can come up with. I'm rarely at a loss for words but in the immediate aftermath of the Bears 16-15 loss to the Eagles, all I could say was, "I think I'm going to puke."

I'm still furious.

Cody Parkey, the alleged Placekicker for the Chicago Bears missed ANOTHER field goal. It's easy to be upset with Cody but I'm not. I can't blame him for what happened last night. it wasn't his fault. I assign him zero blame. He never should have been asked to kick that ball in the first place.

This wasn't the regular kicker blows it story. No, we knew it was coming. We understood very early in the 4th Quarter that it would come down to Cody Parkey making a field goal. And we knew he'd blow it. After all, he's the third worst kicker in the league. This guy went into the playoffs with a 76.7 field goal percentage. If you count extra points, he missed 11 times this year. He hit the uprights SIX TIMES!

He demonstrated time and again that he couldn't do the job. His one job. And yet, the Bears kept him on the team. Went he managed to somehow hit the upright and then the crossbar. Bears fans who had allowed themselves to think that this season might be different all shouted, "OF COURSE!" with one defeated voice.

Why was he still on the team? Because Bears management awarded him with a four-year $15 million contract. $9 million of it is guaranteed money. For a kicker who is terrible at kicking. If you're going to fire this kid, you need to fire whoever thought signing him to that deal and keeping him on the team was a good idea.

Also, that kick was tipped.
