Virginia Sheriff Vows To Deputize Residents In Response To Gun Control Laws

2nd Amendment Advocates Gather At The Rod Of Iron Freedom Festival

One Virginia sheriff has vowed to push back against any gun control legislation that Democratic Governor Ralph Northam signs into law. While no new laws have been passed, Northam has made gun control one of his top legislative priorities now that the Democrats have a majority in the General Assembly.

The Culpeper County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to declare the county a Second Amendment Sanctuary County. Sheriff Scott Jenkins promised to fight any law that gets passed by the General Assembly. He even suggested he would deputize citizens to ensure they would be allowed to keep their firearms.

"Obviously, if passed, there are many of us willing to challenge these laws through the courts. In addition, if necessary, I plan to properly screen and deputize thousands of our law-abiding citizens to protect their constitutional right to own firearms," Jenkins said.

Culpeper County is one of numerous counties in the state that have declared themselves Second Amendment Sanctuary Counties in the wake of Northam's plans, which include universal background checks and a ban on silencers.
