Former NBA guard and current Barstool Sports podcast host Patrick Beverley is accused of punching and choking his minor sister during an incident that led to his arrest earlier this month, the New York Post reports.

Beverley, 37, was charged with third-degree assault and released from Fort Bend County Jail on a $40,000 bond. Beverley's 15-year-old sister claimed she left her Fort Bend, Texas, without permission to see her 18-year-old boyfriend and was confronted by her mother and Beverley when she returned.

The former NBA player allegedly grabbed her “by her neck with both hands, and picked her up off the ground, by having her feet come up from the floor.”

Beverley's sister claimed that he "squeezed her neck causing her to feel pain" for 20-30 seconds, which left her to lose "oxygen and not able to breathe" and took her out of the room by her neck, laid her on a couch and punched her “approximately one time on her left eye with a closed fist,” at which point she claimed he threatened that he "will be the family relative to kill her."

The boyfriend was allegedly asked to leave the house and followed by Beverley, which led to him calling police for assistance, at which point officers found the sister had "markings" on her neck and petechiae in the whites of her eyes. Beverley was detained and released from jail that same day, at which point he shared a statement on his X account.

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet,” he wrote on X. “Hope all is well.”

Beverley later shared a more detailed post addressing the incident on his Instagram.

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record,” he wrote. “He cares deeply about his little sister — a young lady, a minor. Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described, and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”

A third-degree felony in Texas can result in two to 10 years in prison if convicted. Beverley last played in the NBA during the 2023-24 season, which was split between the Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks and played for Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Basketball Premier League during the 2024-25 season, but was suspended in February before leaving the team.
