Any order authorizing further action in Iran must come with Congressional approval, said the Senate on Wednesday.

Eight Republicans joined their Democrat counterparts in the upper chamber, voting 51-45 on a motion to limit the White House's ability to strike Iran again.

The resolution calls for the removal of troops engaged in hostilities with the nation unless an act of war is declared by Congress or an authorization for the use of military force is passed.

While opposed by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a full vote will come to the floor Thursday. The President says he will veto the measure.
