Dr. Fauci Says Masks Still Necessary Even With COVID Vaccine

The nation's top infectious disease expert says a COVID-19 vaccine, whenever it becomes available, isn't going to mean people no longer need to wear masks or practice social distancing.

Doctor Anthony Fauci held a Facebook Live conversation with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy yesterday. He noted that no vaccine is going to 100 percent effective and won't be taken by 100 percent of the population.

Doctor Fauci said he'd like to see 75 to 80 percent of the U.S. population get vaccinated. He said the reason mask wearing is so important is that the virus can hang around in the air "for a period of time."

It remains to be seen when a safe and effective vaccine may become widely available.
