18 Year Old Arrested For Smashing Windows At Council Bluffs Church

Council Bluffs Police have arrested an 18 year old who they say wore two masks and used a baseball bat to smash several windows at a church last weekend.

Police say acting on a citizen’s tip, detectives were able to identify the suspect as being Tate Pilger.  An arrest warrant was issued for Pilger and he was taken into custody Friday morning.

Police say early last Saturday morning a man wearing a Jason mask from the move "Friday the 13th" smashed out some windows. Later in the morning Police say the same person was wearing a Frankenstein mask and returned to smash some more windows. In all, five stained glass windows at the historic church were smashed.

Pilger has been booked into the Pottawattamie County Jail on one count of 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, which is a class D felony, punishable by up to five years of prison and a $7,500 fine.

Police say the masks, bat and clothing worn during the incident were recovered inside Pilger’s home. Built in 1887, St. Peter's is on the national registry of historic places.
