BETTENDORF, Iowa - Prison time for Bettendorf Doctor Narinder Kumar.
KWQC TV6 reports the 66 year old was sentenced to six months in federal prison for failing to pay more than $400,000 in employment taxes for several businesses.Kumar will have to serve three years of supervised release once he is out of prison.Kumar was also fined $10,000 and ordered to pay $721,394.34 in restitution.
Kumar was responsible for paying withheld employment taxes on behalf of Jai Mata Lakshmi in July of 2014.Lakshmi ran two businesses in Davenport, Echelon Sports Bar and Embers of Phoenix.He admitted that he was responsible for paying employee withholding taxes at both of those businesses as well as Bettendorf Pediatric and Funky Desi from 2010 to 2016.That amounted to $461,390 in taxes.Social Security taxes and Medicaid payments that were not paid totaled $260,000.
Kumar pleaded guilty to failure to pay employment tax last August.
