DAVENPORT, Iowa - Genesis Medical Center on east Rusholme Street in Davenport added a triage tent due to the outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus.
KWQC TV6 reports the 40-foot by 40-foot tent is next to the emergency department. Patents will symptoms of COVID-19 coronavirus and other viruses will be screened at that location.
Those with a cough, fever and shortness of breath will then be moved from the tent to the emergency department. Other patients will be given an exam and possibly be tested for COVID-19 coronavirus. If they are tested, the patient will receive information on how to self-isolate at home until the test results are complete. All visiting the tent will receive a medical exam similar to what they would in the emergency room.
Medical Director David Dierks says this is an extension of the emergency department but is specifically for those with mild to moderate symptoms. Some may not need to be tested for COVID-19 coronavirus.
Their goal is to prevent the virus spread to high-risk patients inside the emergency area.
