Rainy weather keeps farmers from finishing 2020 crop planting

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Iowa Department of Agriculture says last week's rain gave farmers just two-and-a-half days to work in their fields.

The department says, as of May 25th, just three percent of the state's expected corn crop still has to be planted. It's still three weeks ahead of last year and almost two weeks ahead of the five-year average.

Corn emergence was at 82 percent, an 20 percent improvement from the previous week.

As for soybeans, 92 percent of the crop's in the ground, which is nearly a month ahead of last year and more than two weeks ahead of average.

Fifty-two percent of the soybean crop has emerged, doubling the amount of from the previous week.
