Geneseo Police find explosive device in vehicle

Geneseo Police say an explosive device was found in the vehicle of a man shot and killed by police on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, investigators obtained a search warrant for 30 year old Jeffery Ryan Blunk's car. Blunk was shot and killed after opening fire on officers Tuesday morning.

Geneseo Police say investigators with the Illinois State Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located the explosive. Police say the Geneseo Police Department, City Hall and number of residences in the area were evacuated after the discovery. They say the Quad Cities Bomb Squad found one pipe bomb, smokeless powder and cannon fuses during the search.

The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois state Police.
