Man charged with first-degree murder in Moline stabbing death

A Moline man is in custody on a first-degree murder charge after a fatal stabbing Tuesday night in Moline.

Moline Police say officers responded to a report of an unknown problem in the 400 block of 17th Avenue. Once on the scene, officers found the suspect, 20 year old Xavier Camper, covered in blood near 5th Street and 17th Avenue.

The investigation took police to a home in the 400 block of 17th Avenue and found 53 year old Kerry Dyer of Moline. Investigators say officers tried life saving measures, but Dyer was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Wednesday, Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson said that preliminary autopsy results show Dyer died from “multiple traumatic stab wounds.”

Camper is in the Rock Island County Jail on a $1 million bond. Police say there are no additional suspects at this time and there is no threat to the public.

The investigation is still ongoing.
