The University of Maryland marching band will stop playing the state song because of the lyrics. "Maryland, My Maryland" was written in 1861 by a Confederaqte soldier. It became the state song in 1939. The lyrics refer to Abraham Lincoln as a "despot" and call the union "northern scum."
History is a really bad thing, and should be ignored.
