STERLING, Illinois - Police in Sterling, Illinois are investigating a deadly shooting.
KWQC TV6 Reports that police were called to do a welfare check on 24 year old Brittney Long. Family members alerted police after she failed to show up to an event and was not answering phone calls.
Police found Long's body and her ex-boyfriend 24 year old Duane Briggs of Freeport. The investigation shows that both died from a single gunshot to the head. Police did locate a gun at the scene.
Police say this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services and the Whiteside County Coroner's Office is assisting with the investigation.
