SPRINGFIELD, Illinois - Illinois health officials report a fourth vaping related death. The person was recently hospitalized with a lung injury following the use of an e-cigarette or vaping device. The product itself has not yet been identified.
KWQC TV6 reports there have been a total of 179 people in Illinois that have come down with lung injuries following vaping. The victims range in age from 13 to 75. There are another 41 possible cases that are under investigation.
The CDC tested fluids from the lungs of 29 patients and found vitamin E acetate. That product is used as an additive in some vaping products. Other chemicals have not been ruled out.
There have been cases reported in 32 counties statewide.
