(Rock Island, IL) -- The Rock Island-Milan School Board is delaying its vote on hiring a candidate to fill the newly-created position of deputy superintendent.

The vote is being moved to a special meeting later this month over what the Board says is a discrepancy over the 174-thousand dollar salary being offered to Jeff Dase. He's currently an Assistant Superintendent of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion with the Decatur, Illinois school board.

Critics of the new deputy superintendent position believe the funding for the job could be better spent addressing a teacher shortage, and the District's building needs.
