(DES MOINES, IA) -- The Iowa Senate has passed an amended version of a bill restricting diversity, equity, and inclusion funding in state government and community colleges.
The updated legislation removes a previous provision that would have penalized private universities by cutting off Iowa Tuition Grant funding. Lawmakers also clarified key definitions in the bill. Supporters say the changes ensure public resources are not used to promote political ideologies, while opponents argue the measure could limit workplace diversity and academic freedom.
The bill now returns to the House for consideration.
