(Iowa) -- Researchers at Iowa State University are studying the relationship between education and marriage.

A new study from two ISU researchers finds that while the number of people earning college degrees is on the rise, marriage rates are declining, particularly among younger people ages 25-34. However, that trend seems to not apply to people later in life, in the 45-54 age range. The study also notes, based on numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau, that before 1970, 80% of Americans ages 25-34 were married. In 2023, that number had dropped to 38%. The study also finds that people with college degrees tend to marry other people with college degrees, showing that getting a four-year degree more than doubles someone's chance of marrying someone with at least a four-year degree.
