(Davenport, IA) -- It will be a lot quieter in downtown Davenport next year.

The city is approving an agreement with CPKC railway that will allow trains to move between Mound and Marquette Streets without blowing their horns.

Eight downtown rail crossings will be upgraded at a cost of just over $3.8-million.

The project will be paid for with federal and state grants, and money from a settlement with the railroad.

The quiet zone is expected to be in place by next summer.
