(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa State Senator Claire Celsi has died at the age of 59.
Democratic leaders confirmed the death of the West Des Moines lawmaker on Monday evening. Celsi had entered hospice care in mid-September following a period of health challenges. In a statement, Senate Democratic Leader Janice Weiner called Celsi a fearless advocate for women, the elderly, and public education.
Celsi had served in the Iowa Senate since 2019.
