(Iowa) -- With Holiday shopping season underway, a new report shows Iowa is seeing a rise in pickpocketing.
Travel Insurance website Compare the Market analyzed new FBI data from all 50 states and found that Iowa saw an 8% increase in pickpocketing incidents between 2021 and 2024. Looking at data over a 5 year period, Iowa saw 2,310 incidents of pickpocketing per 100,000 residents. Despite the increase, Iowa ranks relatively low on the list of states with the highest incidents of pickpocketing, coming in at number 33.
New York ranked as the nation's number one state for pickpocketing, seeing a 1518% increase in pickpocketing incidents between 2021 and 2024. Vermont ranked lowest on the list, seeing a 100% increase in pickpocketing during that same period.
