USDA Report Shows Food Insecurity Rising in Iowa

(Washington, DC ) -- Putting food on the table is becoming more difficult for more Iowa families.

New data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows that while Iowa’s food insecurity rate remains below the national average, hunger is on the rise statewide.

The latest Household Food Security Report found that nearly 11 percent of Iowa households struggled to access enough food between 2022 and 2024. That represents a 57 percent increase compared to pre‑pandemic levels.

Nationally, the food insecurity rate is nearly 14 percent.
