(Iowa) -- Frigid temperatures across Iowa will make travel, and even being outdoors, a real challenge today.

“Conditions this cold can cause frostbite in a very short amount of time, so please take it seriously. Especially with winds blowing at these speeds, it’s hazardous out there,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Jim Lee.

Winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour could push wind chills down to 25 to 30 degrees below zero.

Lee says there are still some flurries and a bit of blowing snow, not enough for blizzard conditions, but enough to cause short‑term visibility drops and slick spots on the roads.

Temperatures are expected to warm into the 20s and 30s on Tuesday, before plunging again later in the week.

Another round of snow is also expected Tuesday night in northern and eastern Iowa, which could impact travel.
