(Iowa) -- Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds introduces a bill designed to support public charter schools.

The bill would allow per-pupil funding to follow public school students to a public charter school. The state of Iowa currently has 19 approved public charter schools. The governor's bill comes at a time of increased demand for charter schools in Iowa. Enrollment in Iowa's public charter schools rose 213% from fiscal year 2023 through fiscal year 2025.

The bill also proposes including the state's public charter schools as an option for student teaching assignments. It would also create a way for students at public charter schools to access concurrent enrollment courses and school athletics through the public school district of their residence.
