(Des Moines, IA) — A bill being considered by the Iowa Senate today (Monday) could make it harder to get a divorce. Senate File 2172 would let couples waive no‑fault divorces before they tie the knot.
If the waiver is signed, a divorce would require proving fault, such as adultery, abuse, or abandonment. Critics say the change would make it harder for people to leave unhappy or unhealthy marriages. Supporters argue the bill strengthens marriage by reinforcing long‑term commitment.
