(Iowa) -- A new national study ranks Iowa low on the list of states where vacant properties are commonly used as vacation homes.
Insurance comparison website Compare the Market found that only 18% of Iowa's 115,049 vacant homes are used seasonally or as vacation homes. Nationally, Iowa ranks 40 out of 50 states with its 0.7 vacation homes for every home available to rent or buy. Nearby Midwestern states Missouri and Nebraska ranked low on the list as well, at 34 and 38 out of 50, respectively.
However, neighboring Wisconsin ranked 5th overall, with 57% of its vacant properties being used as vacation homes or seasonal properties.
